Problems we solve

Work in progress 🚧\
\
Hints: Traditional publishing is a **long and expensive** process, creators get only 10-20% of the retail value of their comics. Audience is often hard to reach as it's limited by the geographical reach of the physical book publisher (vast majority of publishers are acting on local and national levels only!).\
\
Comic collectors feel the desire to have **true ownership** over their digital assets and have the need for a single platform which would provide them with the **full digital collecting experience**. *(hints: VeVe has really high fees, it's fully centralized, you cannot even withdraw NFTs, cash withdrawals are available only if you have at least 1000$ in your wallet and withdrawal fee is 10$!)*\
\
Some comic readers have the urge to engage with their favorite artists within the platform they use. Some comic readers are looking to explore unique styles of storytelling, which web3 can easily provide *(generative comic issues, unique NFT collection styles...)*

{% hint style="info" %}
dReader is a multi-sided market with comic collectors/readers on one side and creators on the other side. First group will be referred to as "users" and second as "creators"

# Business model

{% hint style="info" %}
dReader comes in pair with dPublisher which is our "creator" facing platform
{% endhint %}

dReader's business model is primarily based on monetizing the platform through a commission-based revenue model. The platform allows users to discover, trade, collect, and consume digital comics, and creators to publish and sell their comics. When creators sell their comics on the platform, dReader takes a commission on the sale. Additionally, the platform may also generate revenue through advertising, sponsorships, and partnerships with other companies.

The platform also allows creators to reach a large audience and have more control over the revenue of their comics by self-publishing, as opposed to traditional publishing.

# dPublisher

Digital comic publishing on blockchain

dPublisher is a dedicated application for publishing digital comics that streamlines the self-publishing process for creators, and maximizes the value of their comics compared to traditional publishing methods. The application is easy to use, allowing creators to take control of their publishing process and retain a greater share of the profits.

Unlike traditional publishing, where publishing companies and distributors can take up to 90% of the profits, dPublisher only takes a (variable) 10-20% cut, allowing creators to keep more of the revenue generated from their comics. With dPublisher, creators have the ability to reach their audience directly, bypassing the traditional publishing process and its associated costs.

dPublisher allows creators to upload their comics in various digital formats, and provides a range of tools for creators to market and promote their comics, such as social media integration, analytics, and promotional tools.

The process of publishing a comic with dPublisher is simple, fast and affordable, it allows creators to:

1. Upload their comics in various digital formats.
2. Set the price and availability of their comics.
3. Create a profile and a store page to promote their comics.
4. Create a direct link to the comic page where customers can purchase it.
5. Use analytics to track the sales and performance of their comics.

dPublisher is a great option for creators who want to take control of their publishing process, reach their audience directly, and retain a greater share of the profits generated from their comics. With dPublisher, creators can enjoy a low-cost, flexible, and efficient way to publish digital comics, and reach a wide audience.

Overall, dPublisher woud act as a digital publisher and/or a distributor, as per preference of the creator. In other words, creators can choose to self-publish their comics and distribute sell them on dReader or opt into publishing under our dPublisher Originals series.

# dReader Originals

{% hint style="info" %}
dReader Originals is an exclusive line of comics that are only available on dReader
{% endhint %}

This program is designed to promote and support creators and owners of comics by providing them with better perks and more exposure on the platform.

Being part of this line, creators and owners will have access to a dedicated and prominent space on the platform, where their comics will be highlighted and promoted to a wider audience. They will also have access to exclusive tools and features that will help them market and promote their comics, and gain more visibility for their work.

Additionally, dReader Originals comics will be protected under the platform's IP rights policy. This means that all comics under this program will be protected from unauthorized use, reproduction, or distribution. Creators and owners will retain the rights to their comics while keeping the exclusivity of distribution to the dReader platform.

Overall, dReader Originals is a program that is designed to promote and support creators and owners of comics by providing them with better perks, more exposure, and protection of their IP rights. This program allows creators and owners to have more control over their comics and to have a more sustainable and profitable business model.

# Other opportunities

Beyond digital publishing

Other opportunities for dReader include expanding its offerings beyond just digital comics and into merchandise, physical comics, and other related products.

This could include merchandise such as t-shirts, action figures, and other collectibles that feature characters from popular comic series under [**dReader Originals**](/general/business-model/dreader-originals)**.**

Additionally, dReader could also sell physical comics, allowing users to have a tangible copy of their favorite comics. This could be particularly appealing to collectors who value the physical aspect of comic book collecting.

By offering a wider range of products, dReader could attract a larger customer base and increase its revenue potential.

Furthermore, dReader could leverage its large user base to generate revenue through targeted advertising and sponsored content, such as sponsored comics or special editions.

# Endgame

The final state of dReader and the company is one that offers a comprehensive platform for discovering, trading, collecting, and consuming digital comics, as well as other forms of digital media such as eBooks, animated comics, and point and click comics. The company has expanded its offerings to include 1/1 collectibles. This adds an extra layer of exclusivity and value to the platform, making it even more appealing to collectors and fans.

Furthermore, the company is also selling **physical copies** of comics that come **with NFC** chips, this allows customers to mint digital issues of the comic they bought in a physical format. This also allows for a more immersive and authentic experience for customers who enjoy both physical and digital comics.

Overall, the final state of dReader and the company is one that offers a wide range of products and services which would enable experiences that go beyond classic comic book collecting.

# Revenue streams

Empowering creators

Creating and sharing content can be a fulfilling and rewarding experience for creators, but it can also be a challenging and uncertain path to monetize their work.

Finding a sustainable revenue stream is essential for creators who want to make a living from their work and continue to create content.

dReader provides **various revenue streams** **for creators** through features such as [**self-publishing**](/creators/revenue-streams/self-publishing)**,** [**royalties on their comics**](/creators/revenue-streams/royalties)**, and merchandise sales.**

These revenue streams allow creators to monetize their work and receive financial compensation for their efforts.

Additionally, by providing valuable insights into readers' engagement and preferences, dReader empowers creators to tailor their comics to better serve their audience and increase their revenue potential.

{% hint style="success" %}
dReader's revenue stream options provide creators with the tools they need to turn their passion into a sustainable career.
{% endhint %}

# Self-Publishing

dReader empowers creators to earn revenue through self-publishing their comics on the platform via dPublisher creator interface with a high profit cut of **up to 90% of sales revenue** with a minimum of 80% share.

Independent creators who may not have the resources or connections to publish through traditional channels can now use dReader to share their stories and **gain recognition in the industry.**

[dPublisher](/general/business-model/dpublisher) takes a percentage of the revenue generated from the primary and secondary sales of these self-published comics as commission.

One part of these profits will be used for marketing various comics on external services, whilst another part will be distributed to existing and new creators in a form of creator grants.

Furthermore, dReader could also provide tools and resources for creators, such as **tutorials and guides**, to help them create and publish comics on the platform. This will help to create a sustainable ecosystem for creators and empower them to share their stories, reach new audiences and monetize their work.

Major part of dPublisher profits from royalties will play a vital role in our business model.

As a conclusion, self-publishing feature allows creators to have more control over their creative process while collecting more profits than traditional publishing could offer.

# Royalties

dReader provides a revenue stream for creators through royalties on their comics sold on the platform.

When a creator uploads their comic to dPublisher, they have the option to set a minting price of the comic, with a **fixed 6% royalties rate** on all **secondary sales**. This allows creators to continuously earn money from their work and helps to support them in their creative endeavors.

This feature will also support the sustainable ecosystem for creators and empower them to share their stories and reach new audiences.

# 1 of 1 Collectibles

Each creator can earn additional revenue by producing 1 of 1 collectibles which their community might like. Besides setting the mint price and royalties % to collect, creators can also decide the number of printed editions each collectible will have.

dReader will collect **no royalties** on sales of 1 of 1 collectible items. We want creators to have at least some kind of safe haven from any kind of taxes. Furthermore, we want their fans to have a place where they could essentially tip the authors with 100% of the tip value.

# Commissions

Artists on dReader have the perfect opportunity to engage with their community via various tools and services as described in the [audience section](/creators/audience).

One of such tools is the in-app chat which can be used to establish commission art contracts with their fans. In the future we will look to evolve this option and create the "hire artists" feature with a Fiverr-like interface.

{% hint style="success" %}
In-app chat will be web3 native and implemeted via [Dialect protocol](https://www.dialect.to/)
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Full details about "Commissions" not yet disclosed

# Merchandise

{% hint style="info" %}

{% endhint %}

# Presales

Creators can kick-start their comics without over-investing themselves, hurting their budget or risking ruining the reputation by having a comic release (mint).

With dReader presales feature creators are able to upload the concept art along with the plot description and thus survey the audience's in such a comic.

With minimum time dedication, creator can come to a strong conclusion if the comic idea they had is worth pursuing. On the other hand, early project supporters lose nothing if the presale fails since the project will be canceled and their funds returned from the Escrow wallet.

However, if the presale succeeds... no harm is done. Investors have a copy of the comic issue secured (and possibly bought by a cheaper price than the regular primary sale price). Creator can start the production risk-free and with peace of mind because of the fact that the comic is sentenced to success!

# Audience

Creators using dReader have the opportunity to connect with a dedicated and engaged audience of digital comic enthusiasts.

The platform's user-friendly interface, intuitive navigation, and search features make it easy for readers to discover new comics and creators, providing creators with a wider potential audience for their work. Additionally, by providing a **decentralized marketplace** for digital comics, dReader allows creators to reach a global audience, regardless of their location.

The platform can also provide valuable insights into readers' engagement and preferences, allowing creators to tailor their comics to better serve their audience. Furthermore, dReader's community features such as commenting, ratings, and discussion forums provide creators with direct feedback from readers, allowing them to improve their comics and connect with their audience more effectively.

Readers will get the opportunity to attend digital meet-ups and receive [**digital signatures**](/readers/collecting/digital-signature) from the comic authors, this makes the reading experience more personal and interactive, and enhances the enjoyment of reading digital comics.

signed and unsigned copy

signing a collectible

## In-app chat

Creators and users will also have have a real time chat feature which they could use to connect. This way, creators would be able to establish a direct link with their audience, and users will be able to reach out to their favorite artists with the goal of learning more about them, plot of the next comic episode, or with the goal of hiring the creator for commission art.

Within the chat, creators would be able to sign NFTs (change it's metadata to have their digital signature) and create transactions which users could sign in order to pay for a successfully completed contract job.

{% hint style="success" %}
In-app chat will be native web3 and implemeted via [Dialect protocol](https://www.dialect.to/)
{% endhint %}

# Marketplace

dReader - Book store on blockchain

{% hint style="info" %}
Work in progress 🚧
{% endhint %}

The marketplace in dReader is a dedicated solution for buying and selling digital comics. It allows users to discover, trade, and collect comics that they may not be able to find elsewhere. The marketplace provides a user-friendly and easy-to-navigate platform for users to find and purchase comics that they are looking for.

# Collecting

Collecting comics can be a fun and rewarding hobby. dReader's user-friendly interface and easy-to-navigate features make it easy for users to find and purchase comics that they are looking for.

dReader's "my library" feature allows users to organize and keep track of the comics they own, making it easy to see what comics they have and what comics they still need to acquire. Users can operate their personal library to add comics they own, and use the marketplace feature to trade or buy comics they still need.

Additionally, dReader may also include a feature to track the value of the comics over time, this will allow users to see how much their collection is worth, and make better decisions when buying or selling comics.

Collecting comics can also be an enjoyable social activity and dReader's community feature allows users to connect with other comic enthusiasts, share their collections, and trade comics with other users.

Overall, dReader's platform provides a comprehensive platform for comic collecting. It allows users to discover, trade, and collect comics in an easy and user-friendly way, as well as connect with other comic enthusiasts and track the value of their collection. This makes dReader an ideal platform for comic collectors, who are looking for an enjoyable and rewarding hobby.

# Condition state

Wear and tear

The digital comic experience on dReader is designed to simulate the experience of reading physical comics. Once a reader reads a digital comic, the comic gets "worn out" and changes state from mint condition to a used comic. This feature aims to replicate the feeling of unboxing a physical comic, where the comic is no longer in its original condition.

To incentivise "unboxing" of digital comics we will explore the route of "using" Comic issue NFTs. For example, digital comics could be unboxed once in a lifetime to consume a specific benefit like a 1 on 1 call with the creator.

mint and used conditions

# Digital Signature

Digital meet-ups

The digital comic experience on dReader includes the ability for readers to obtain a digital signature from the comic author, by attending their digital meet-ups. This feature allows readers to interact with the creators of the comics they love in a unique and personal way.

During the meet-ups, creators can talk about their work, answer questions, and interact with readers in real-time. These digital meet-ups can be scheduled on a regular basis and can take place in a variety of formats, such as live streaming, video conferencing, or chat rooms.

At the end of the meet-up, readers can request a digital signature from the author, which can be added to the digital comic they purchased. This feature allows readers to personalize their comics and have a lasting memory of the meet-up.

signed and unsigned copy

This feature not only provides an opportunity for creators to connect with their audience but also allows readers to have a more immersive and authentic experience with the comics they love, and to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the creative process behind the comics.

Overall, the digital comic experience on dReader is designed to provide real life experience for readers and creators.
